The British Titanic Society Exhibition - We took a taxi down to the De Vere Harbour Hotel to see the traditional annual Exhibition and Sales Day. I was pleased to be able to chat to Charles Haas, Jack Eaton, Brigitte Saar, Tim Silcocks and David Hill..

We met with old friends, many of whom had travelled in just for the day. We were very pleased to see Charles and Delyse Case, Claes Goran Wetterholm, Mandy de Boutillier and Ethel Kyriaco.

"From the Titanic to the QM2”.

Stephen Payne was the lead designer of Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2. Stephen decided upon his eventual career during a day trip to Southampton docks and a visit to Queen Elizabeth 2 in the summer of 1969 when he was nine years old. From June 1st 2004 Stephen was appointed Vice President Chief Naval Architect Carnival Corporate Shipbuilding and he was awarded the OBE for his work with Queen Mary 2; in 2005 he was awarded the status of Royal Designer of Industry and was also awarded the Merchant Navy Medal for Services to Shipping. The University of Southampton awarded him with an Honorary Doctorate of Science in 2007. Since July 2007 he has been the President of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and in July 2008 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

There was a short conducted tour of the Oceanography Centre between lectures.

Garry Momber, the Director of the Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology then gave a talk on “Wrecks in the Solent”. Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology promotes interest, research and knowledge of maritime archaeology and heritage in Great Britain, with core activities focused in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight and the adjacent South Coast areas.

We finally went back to the hotel to get changed into "our finery".

We took taxis to the Holyrood Church for a reception then crossed the road to the N.V. Restaurant for our Gala Dinner with the Sherriff and her daughter.
